Vision Quest part 1

A few weeks ago I went on an incredible adventure where I spent the weekend in ceremony together with 6 other people, and then solo on a Vision Quest, sitting in the woods of Central Washington state alone for 4 days, praying, drumming, singing, listening, and sleeping. It was enlightening and so very transformative, and, of course I have to draw comics about it. These first two below are a bit goofy, but there are more, meatier ones to come...

For those of you just joining us: This is a 15 page comic I am currently working on around a series of really powerful Sacred Pipe ceremonies, for the sake of simplicity presented in this comic as one ceremony, I did in conjunction with a Soul Retrieval I performed for myself to heal some childhood trauma.

NOTE: For the curious - Tobacco and only tobacco goes into the Chanupa (Sacred Pipe).

Little Brother page 1

Here is the first of fifteen pages of a comic I am currently working on. This one differs from other comics I have done in that I finished thumbnailing the entire comic before ever penciling and inking any of the finished pages. Normally after thumbnailing a page I will immediately pencil and ink the final version of that page before thumbnailing the next one. I’m not sure yet if this is the way I will continue to create comics, but I am glad for the experience. 

A number of months ago I was blessed ceremonially to become a Sacred Pipe Carrier with the Chanupa, the Sacred Pipe, I’d acquired and hand carved. This comic is about a Soul Retrieval I performed on myself in the course of a series of three pipe ceremonies I’d done. For the sake of the simplicity of the comic, I condensed it into a single ceremony.

"Little Brother" Thumbnail Sketches

This is kind of a "DVD Bonus Features" type post with some behind-the-scenes thumbnail sketches of a current comic I am working on, based on a recent powerful experience I had connecting with my younger self for some healing during a Sacred Pipe Ceremony.

I tend to go back and forth between drawing the shorter, one-page comics and these longer, more involved ones, and just to show that my dedication to my calling has not wavered, even though I don't have another finished comic at the moment, I thought I'd post sketches from one that I am actively working on every day.

Tooth Be Told

I haven’t been drawing much for the past couple weeks because of extensive dental work, and the need for lots of sleep to recover from it. But now I am coming through the other side and, though not quite up to par, my creativity has been slowly returning - Hence the following expression of the lowest point in this particular initiation. Rest assured I am alright and moving towards complete healing.
